What IRONMAN 70.3 Bintan is about
Ironman 70.3 Bintan, also known as a Half Ironman, is one of a series of long distance triathlon races organized by MetaSport. The “70.3” refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race, consisting of a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km bike ride, and 21.1 km run. Each distance of the swim, bike, and run segments is half the distance of that segment in an Ironman triathlon.
The time needed by an athlete to complete a 70.3 distance event varies from race to race and can be influenced by external factors. These factors include the terrain and the total elevation gained and lost on the course, weather conditions, and course conditions. Finish times range from sub-4 hour completion times by elite level athletes to the imposed race cut off, which is commonly 8 hours and 30 minutes after the start time.
1,9 km SWIM
Naturally still and calm, the serenity of the waters on the race morning will be disturbed by 1,000 excited swimmers. You can expect the water temperature to be around 29 degrees Celsius. Think of white sandy beaches, waving palm trees, crystal clear water and no swell or breeze.
90 km BIKE
The bike course is one of the most scenic in the world. It consists of a single lap. The route meanders through the north-western part of the island, which, save for a few villages full of enthusiastic flag-waving spectators, still lies in its natural state: from lush, dense green forest to fantastic coastal views.
21,1 km RUN
The fast and flat run course follows a paved track around the man-made lake of Lagoi Bay, through manicured gardens skirting the tropical rainforest. The multi-lap format, passes by the festive finish area several times, giving athletes all the support needed in this final discipline of the race.
